Another one bites the dust

The shutdown of Greek specialist Laskarina Holidays is another indication of how bad the summer has been for traditional tour operators.

Co-founder and managing director Ian Murdoch has decided to cease trading after making a loss this year.

Laskarina won many awards and was widely regarded as the best tour operator to Greece. But there is so much competition these days, and many people are choosing to use no-frills flights and book over the Internet.

Small wonder the Civil Aviation Authority, which licenses tour operators, is predicting the end of the traditional travel company model.
