Are we really a nation of travellers?

According to a new survey, more Brits spend their holidays in the UK than overseas.

Some 68 per cent of adults quizzed by YouGov have been on holiday in the UK over the past two years, but only 57 per cent holidayed in Europe, 17 per cent in North America, six per cent in Africa or Asia, 4 per cent in Australasia and three per cent in South America.

As has been well documented recently, there’s also a strong trend towards adventurous holidays. Some 28 per cent of Britons said they would go on more adventurous holidays and many of them were over 50.

Perhaps those who stay in the UK are worried that something might happen to them abroad – some 27 per cent said they suffered trouble of some sort, such as luggage lost or money stolen, while away.

Or perhaps they stay here because we have some of the most stunning sites in the world, particularly when the sun shines.

What’s your view of holidays in the UK?
