Average hotel prices near £100

How much are you prepared to pay for a hotel room?

On average, we’ll fork out £93 a night, according to new research, which seems a bit steep to me.

In London, of course, we’ll pay more, with the average coming in at £125 and New York is even more expensive. In the big Apple, we’ll pay £151 a night for a room.

The cost of a holiday in New York always fascinates me. With the current deals around, you can cross the Atlantic for just a few hundred pounds and prices will probably fall further with the new ‘open skies’ agreement between the UK and US, which will allow more airlines to fly on the routes.

When you’re there, the exchange rate makes the city good value, although you will still be charged plenty in a decent restaurant.

But, the cost of staying in New York is astronomical. Any centrally-located hotel charging less than £150 a night is likely to be about the size of a telephone booth and not much cleaner.
