Blogging – the new alternative to postcards

It’s fun, it’s easy and it’s a craze that’s sweeping the nation.

‘Blogs’, or online diaries, are now so widespread that the website www.blogger.com, which allows you to create your own blog, was voted as one of the ten most influential websites in the US.

Travel blogs are becoming hugely popular and are a fun way of keeping in touch with friends and family when you’re on holiday or travelling around. Instead of sending postcards to everyone, bloggers write an online diary for interested parties.

Would-be bloggers can set up their own website or sign up with an established blogging site. They then post their experiences and with a little practice bloggers can add photographs to their site. This is far preferable to emailing pictures to friends, which is often a time-consuming process and can clog up the recipient’s inbox.

All that bloggers need is a computer with Internet access: provided the website is kept running, the journal becomes a permanent account sitting in cyberspace.

Fancy writing your own travelblog of holiday experiences? One of the better free blog sites is www.travelblog.org. Anyone wanting to join goes to the site, enters an email address and is given a password. They’re then given a section on the site and can begin writing and uploading photographs.
