Boo.com back – in travel

Do you remember boo.com?

It was the fashion website that became a symbol of everything that was wrong with dotcom revolution.

In the late 1990s, venture capitalists were stupid enough to throw money at anything that was trading over the Internet and a company selling branded fashion wear online couldn’t go wrong, could it?

To say it was badly managed was an understatement. It had a crippling pay roll, a website that was hard to use and founders who famously spent their way through £100 million of venture capital.

It eventually went into liquidation on May 18, 2000.

However, it’s back, or at least the website is back under current owners Web Reservations International.

And guess what – it’s now a travel site. Everyone thinks they can make money out of travel but relatively few do. It’s a saturated market where competition is intense.

One thing’s for sure – you can’t go burning other people’s money as if it’s going out of fashion.
