Business perk flies off
Are you one of those businessmen or women who racks up air miles and then uses them for holidays?
It’s one of the perks of having to be away on business so often, right?
Wrong, according to a recent German court ruling which could have an impact on workers in the UK.
The German Federal Labour Court ruled against a sales manager who argued he should be able to keep around £6,500 worth of Lufthansa frequent flyer miles, earned on business, for private use. His employer wanted him to use the miles against future business trips.
So, the court was saying that if you earn miles on business trips, they belong to the company.
Many firms will be rubbing their hands in glee at the opportunity to reduce their costs by grabbing back the air miles from their globetrotting employees.
Do you think this is fair?
