Celebrity tips – eat whenever and avoid crowds
You’ve booked your holiday, you’re looking forward to going, but what would make the trip even more enjoyable?
Many celebrities think they have the answer. On www.travelleronline.com, Twiggy says she prefers the sun to be her watch and eats when her stomach decides. It sounds good, but also a bit impractical if you have some hungry kids in tow.
Newsreader Jon Snow advises people to avoid the madding crowds, saying: “I’m not drawn to a place by books or films, but I am drawn by the absence of technological development. You have to walk or bike, there’s no television to sate your children’s interest, it’s self-sufficiency. I can’t bear the thought of a package holiday.”
Travel expert Simon Calder advises people to buy a phrase book as even a few words make a difference to those around you. And he also recommends you take half the luggage and twice the money that you originally planned for.
Thanks to Suzanne Louka, who emailed me with a couple of useful tips. She advises packing toiletries in cooler bags, instead of costly cosmetic bags, as they are waterproof and roomy. They’re also square and fit neatly into suitcases. For picnics, Suzanne recommends soaking a washing up cloth and putting it in a clean jar with a screw lid. Suzanne, you are clearly the most practical woman in the world and I will have to give you a call next time I’m planning a trip!
Thanks also to Brent, who sent a breathless email saying how much he enjoyed Barcelona, but didn’t give any details. We’d love to know your recommendations for things to see and do and bars to visit (well I would, anyway!).
Do you have any tips, holiday recommendations or travel stories you’d like to share?
