Ferries to Spain
SPAIN Spain holds a magical charm for visitors due as much to its rich and diverse history and pre-historic aura as the variety of things to do, see and enjoy in this crown jewel of the Iberian Peninsula. The legendary dream of a Spanish holiday is a thrilling reality here, be it the revelries at a traditional fiesta, a hair-raising bullfight in the ring, a refreshing beach holiday, a peek at the amazing range of flora and fauna in the wild and pristine woods, a visit to the Moorish monuments, a bite of the exotic Basque cuisine, or what have you. Little wonder that over 40 million tourists flock to Spain every year. Stretching across 499,401 sq km of land area in south-western Europe, Spain accounts for as much as 85% of the Iberian Peninsula, the balance remaining with Portugal. Its geography, landscape and climate differ vastly from region to region, making it a truly multi-dimensional country in character, personalities and pursuits. Endowed with five large mountain ranges and three major rivers (Ebro, Tajo and Guadalquivir), Spain also features some patches of barren land, verdant fields and farmland, and a very long coastline bordering the Atlantic and Cantabrian Sea in the west and the Mediterranean in the east. From the centre a broad plateau rolls out towards the east and south, occasionally interspersed with valleys and mountain ranges. Majorca is the largest among the Balearic Islands that lie to the east of the coastline of Spain. Africa is about 16 km down south while the Canary Islands lie 97 km west of Africa. Spain is a country that is rich in a variety of natural resources that include iron ore and copper, lead and zinc, tungsten and mercury, pyrites and uranium, gypsum and potash, coal and lignite. Large stretches of arable land, hydro-electric power and livestock are among the other resources. Spain has a growing economy that relies on a mix of industries, agriculture, mining, manufacture, and tourism. Among the major industries are metals and machine tools, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, automobiles and shipbuilding, food and beverages, apparel and footwear, clay and refractory items, health and medical equipment. Agricultural produces include cereals and sugar beets, grapes and olives, fruits and vegetables, apart from livestock items such as fish and meat, poultry and dairy products.
