Endearingly called the “Venice of the North”, Stockholm is a beautiful city with a heady blend of the antique and the modern. Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden. Featuring a distinct Dutch ambience, this city can be traversed on foot or by using a boat or tram. Among the many sights to see here are the lively amusement Park of Liseberg, the botanical gardens and museums.
Malmo, Sweden’s third largest city, is a great draw for the visitor with its many continental monuments, shopping centres and eateries. The delights of Eastern Sweden are many–tall blue hills in Kilsberg and undulating plains in the Narke region; the southern forests and trolls of Tiveden; the 19th century Orebro Castle; panoramic views of the meandering River Svartan; charming Lake Vattern with the imposing fort on its flank in Karlsborg; and the wildlife reserves in Vadkoping. A little beyond Orebro in Karlslunds Gard, you come across a number of majestic country manors built 200 years ago. Don’t miss the water sports and entertainment at the Skara Sommarland.
The long coastline of Western Sweden set against the table-top mountains and complete with pristine forests, tiny islands, fishing villages, harbours and breathtaking archipelagos is an attractive area for tourists. Apart from Lake Vanern, pretty little towns and farms in the countryside offer you unforgettable pleasures of swimming, strolling, fishing, boating, and a lot more. If you love canoeing and sailing, head for the Dalsland Canal that links lovely lakes and rivers for over 200 kilometres. Amal is a historical 18th century spot with elegant mansions nicely renovated for show in a marketplace museum. Artists and pottery experts assemble at Lidkoping every year in August. While in this region, do visit the exquisite Lacko Castle built in Baroque style on the breathtaking Kallandso Peninsula.
