Elton and David set a trend

If it’s good enough for Elton John and David Furnish, it’ll be good enough for thousands of other couples.

The change in the law allowing same sex couples to get married is set to lead to a surge in honeymoon bookings for lots of travel companies.

I spoke to Rob Harkavy, the founder of gay operator Respect Holidays, who was particularly chirpy at the thought of customers spending more money on his trips.

“We’ve had hundreds of enquiries. Many people will have a specialist holiday, with added extras such as limousine transfers and champagne in their room,” he said.

“We’ve increased the number of four- and five-star properties in Mykonos and Gran Canaria in 2006, with honeymoons in mind.”
