Have you got a second life?

While we’re on the Internet, did you know there are now 5.8 million ‘residents’ of Second Life?

For those not familiar with this phenomenon, Second Life is a virtual world where people can live out their fantasies.

In Second Life, you create your own body image and a house or business. Companies like Reuters and Nike advertise in there.

But I’m sorry, I just don’t get it. Everyone is gorgeous in this virtual world, because, of course, all participants make sure they look like Brad Pitt or Halle Berry.

I have this vision of the virtual world being occupied by geeky computer nerds, who lack the social skills to have real friends and instead sit behind a flat screen and keyboard all day.

For me, second life is for people who haven’t got a first life.

But maybe I’m wrong, and perhaps you could be the person to convince me of the error of my ways. After all, if nearly six million people are hooked, there must be something there, mustn’t there?

Are you a member of Second Life? If so, please tell me the attraction and also, be honest, is it some bizarre substitute for a real life?
