Holidaying on a budget
I was amazed to discover that nearly half of all holidaymakers spend less than £400 while away, according to new research. I’ve never, in recent years, been away and got through as little as that.
YouGov researched 2,205 British adults and discovered that 57 per cent of Britons admitted to spending over £400 a week on holiday, on top of the amount paid for travel and accommodation. But the interesting statistic is that 43 per cent got by on less than that amount.
Amazingly, on foreign trips, three per cent of men and two per cent of women spent under £100 on their holiday. How on earth did they manage? Do they have some secret code for getting free meals and drinks abroad?
Some 60 per cent of people admitted to spending over £50 on new clothes prior to a trip abroad. Maybe that’s why we still see all those shiny new speedos on the beach!
