Holidaymakers are clueless, says survey
A few years ago, I was a cruise reporter and spent much of my time jumping on ships in Miami and travelling around the Caribbean (there’s no need to feel sorry for me).
I had to interview Americans on ships and I was amazed at the ignorance of some of the passengers. Many of them didn’t know the name of the ship they were on and didn’t have a clue which ships they had previously sailed on.
Plenty of passengers did even know which islands they were travelling to.
At the time, I mentally wrote them off as being a bit dense, but it seems that British travellers are just as bad, if not worse.
Sixty per cent of Brits could not accurately place on a map where they had been on holiday last year, according to new research from a travel website.
A further 28 per cent thought Singapore was in China, 29 per cent believed New Zealand belonged to Australia and 44 per cent did not know the Alps were in Europe.
Can you believe we are that thick?
Are you the type of person who reads a guidebook before you travel and knows everything there is to know about a destination or do you just arrive somewhere without really having a clue where you are?
