No surfing in the sky
The next time I commit the terrible crime of going on a long-haul flight, I can at least comfort myself with a few glasses of wine and a decent film, rather than having to read emails from the environmental lobby.
Boeing has announced it is winding down its service for offering Internet access on board aircraft. The company is shutting down its loss-making Connexion unit, which allowed airlines to provide high-speed Internet access to passengers.
Few airlines signed up because the service was costly and, perhaps, because its passengers wanted to escape from the office, rather than logging on and being in constant contact.
A spokesman for American Airlines said: “It has to make sense financially and it will be some time before we see anything feasible.”
