DFDS Ferry

The DFDS Seaways fleet is one of the largest fleets in Northern Europe. They pride themselves on their long history and ability to deliver an authentic, Danish-orientated maritime experience in the comfort of modern cruise-style ferries. As well as providing an important travel link for drivers and foot passengers to their destinations, they offer mini-cruises to all their ports, and canal and harbour tours of Copenhagen. They are also one of Scandinavia’s largest hotel chains.

History

DFDS Seaways is part of the DFDS Group of Companies, one of the largest in Denmark, and has been providing passenger services for more than 140 years. The company goes back to 1866, when a few small Danish shipping companies merged to form the oldest large shipping company in Denmark: DFDS, “Det Forenede Dampskibs-Selskab” (The United Steamship Company). DFDS started with 19 ferries and this has since grown to some 450 ferries, one of the largest in Northern Europe, specialising in high quality cruising, leisure, holiday and conference trips.

Freight Transport and forwarding are services offered to their professional customers through DFDS Tor Line, which operates an extensive freight ferry network with sailings between the UK, Scandinavia and Continental Europe, as well as within Scandinavia. DFDS is still sailing on some of the same routes begun in the 1800s. Development in DFDS from 1966 has been especially rapid.
