More About DFDS Ferries
Routes
DFDS Seaways routes fall into two main categories: North Sea and Kattegat. On the North Sea it operates the ferry routes Harwich-Esbjerg, Newcastle-Stavanger-Haugesund-Bergen, and Newcastle-Amsterdam.
On the Kattegat DFDS operates the ferry route Copenhagen-Oslo.
Facilities
DFDS Seaways ferries offer all the comfort and service you would expect from ocean cruise liners. The ferries in the fleet are all different and have their own individual characters, but with great restaurants, shops, play areas and entertainment there is something for everyone, young and old alike.
All seven of the DFDS ferries operating on these routes offer similar facilities, with small variations in cabin types and restaurants. Since all sailings are overnight, cabin accommodation is required, and this falls into Economy, Standard and Commodore classes. Traditionally, the lower decks are reserved for the cheaper cabins, going up to the deluxe and more spacious Commodore cabins with better ocean views, TVs and complimentary breakfasts.
Several cabins are set aside for disabled travellers with special access needs. As the ferries are all different, the size and standard of cabins may vary somewhat between them, and not all cabin categories are available on all DFDS Seaways ferries, so check out the individual ferry’s brochures in advance.
In the evenings, passengers can enjoy the traditional Danish “Smorgåsbord” - a buffet of different foods, including a variety of fresh seafood such as salmon, crayfish, prawns and especially herring. There are also hot and cold meats, salads, cheeses and a range of desserts. The exclusive à la carte Blue Riband restaurants serve up excellent meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. The Bake’n Coffee cafés are light and modern, and serve a traditional café selection at reasonable prices.
The cafés offer an excellent range of snacks, including soft drinks and teas and a range of coffees. They are perfect for those with a small appetite, and offer customers something a little lighter than a full meal. In the mornings a breakfast buffet is served.
All ferries have live bands and late-night discos, and cruise managers arrange competitions and present shows performed by professional dancers. The onboard shops offer a wide range of spirits, perfumes and tobacco at often reduced prices, and include many major brands.
For passengers wishing to combine business with pleasure, conference facilities are available, with conference rooms equipped with the latest technology, and tiered theatre rooms, available on some ferries, ensuring enhanced acoustics for speakers.
