More About Transeuropa Ferries
Routes There is one route - Ramsgate to Ostend - with four sailings per day, with a crossing time of approximately 4 hours. However, different ferries on this line (as well as others) have different speeds, and both the Channel tides and Channel traffic can affect the crossing time. In general, the Larkspur is the slowest of the Transeuropa ferries, and may take up to five hours to get across the Channel. The ferries are rotated around the schedule, so it cannot be guaranteed which ship will carry out a particular sailing. However, the last passenger sailings each day are usually the Oleander, and the others either the Larkspur or Eurovoyager. Occasionally, one of the freight vessels may be brought into service as a temporary stand-in. In such cases passengers are always advised before boarding that there will be reduced facilities. It should be noted that passengers with mobility problems cannot board these semi-freight sailings. One of these ferries - the Gardenia - has a single large room which is used as a restaurant, bar and lounge. The Primrose, although normally used as a freight vessel, is actually a sister ship to the Eurovoyager and has similar accommodation. The Ramsgate ferry port is about 500m outside the town centre (10 minute walk, or 2 minute drive), and the entrance/exit for the Ostend terminal is about 2000m outside the town centre. Both ports are open 24 hours per day. The passenger reception desks are manned from 06:00 to 18:45 during Winter and from 06:00 until the last passenger sails during Spring, Summer and Autumn. Facilities Once onboard you can relax and enjoy Belgian, English or Italian cuisine in the a la carte restaurant, or a light meal in the family areas. TransEuropa Ferries also have cinemas, Internet access and pre-bookable cabin accommodation for an even quieter crossing. Passengers must advise Transeuropa staff, at the time of booking, and again at check-in, if anyone in the party may have difficulties walking up stairs. This enables the crew to load the vehicle in question as close as possible to a lift on board the ship. Whilst all the passenger ferries have lifts, those in the Eurovoyager and Primrose are small, and are raised slightly above the deck level (i.e. there is a step to negotiate) and are not practical for wheelchair users. The two freight ferries have no lifts, and passenger access is by sharply inclined internal and external stairs. At present, the only currency change facility is in the Ramsgate terminal (with a limit of 100 Euros). Back To Transeuropa Ferries
