Pet travel on the increase
What do you do with your pets when you go on holiday?
Apparently, there are 49 million pets in the UK and owners are no longer prepared to put their four-legged friends in the nearest kennel or cattery when they go away.
Pet travel is estimated to grow by six per cent, year-on-year for the next five years.
Hotels that cotton on to this trend can make a fortune – sometimes the additional revenue from a family with a pet can be as much as 30 per cent.
Just as we’re happy to pay over-the-odds for drinks while we’re away, pet owners will fork out a fortune for the right pet food for Rover when they’re on holiday.
But it’s a tricky one for hoteliers. After all, do the rest of their guests want to stay in a place full of barking hounds? I certainly wouldn’t.
