What To See & Do in Le Havre

Sights The warmth and hospitality of Le Havre’s inhabitants is well known. Le Havre is home to a variety of communities and cultural traditions and is classed as the third most cultured city in France. St Joseph’s Church: this was a key project in the rebuilding of the city. Its tall tower is lined with coloured glass. Hotel de Ville (Town Hall): situated on one of the largest squares in France, information about the Le Havre can be found inside, and you can climb the tower for panoramic views. Malraux Museum: houses the largest collection of Impressionist paintings in France outside of Paris. Cultural Centre: designed by leading architect Oscar Neimeyer, this impressive building is a centre for performance art and is located in the centre of town. Food & Drink Le Havre has some wonderful restaurants, with a brilliant selection of cuisine ranging from seafood to creperies to brasseries to saladeries and pizzerias, mostly within a walk of the waterfront. Quartier St-François, the Old Town, is the best place to head for good restaurants and bars, and its shopping centre - situated near the ferry terminal - has a fish market every afternoon. There are restaurants, boutiques and hotels in Quartier Notre-Dame, whilst Quartier St Vincent is five minutes’ walk from the town hall and has traditional boutiques open in the mornings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Quartier Thiers-Coty has a market on the same days, and also boutiques, department stores and shops. Quartier Rond-Point, close to the railway station, is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sunday mornings. There are two hypermarkets near Le Havre: Auchan and Leclerc in Gonfreville. Transport The centre of town is easily covered on foot, although a local bus service runs regularly. The ferry port and train station are a short walk from the centre of town. Le Havre is driver friendly, with only 5% of parking spaces being metered. Le Havre is 200km from Paris on the A131 and has good motorway connections to the rest of France. Back to Le Havre
