What to See & Do in Troon

Sights There’s plenty to keep you occupied in this busy town. Troon Yacht Haven is a 300-berth marina, with attractive pricing on a wide range of modern facilities for berth-holders and visiting yachtsmen. There is always something interesting to see at the harbour and the neighbouring ballast bank, which has excellent views of North and South Ayrshire, Ailsa Craig, Arran, and, on a clear day, the Mull of Kintyre. The Ayrshire Arts & Craft Fair is an indication of the thriving nature of cottage industry in Ayrshire, and takes over Troon Concert Hall for a Saturday in each month. From handmade jewellery to embroidery, toys, wood-turning and stained glass, there is a wide choice for shoppers to choose from. The West Coast of Scotland gives you some of the most spectacular scenery and golf that this country has to offer. There are dramatic coastlines and miles of countryside. Enjoy the Scottish Grand National at Ayr Racecourse, explore the Isle of Arran and see the birthplace of Scotland’s national poet at the Burns Centre. Troon has two bowling clubs, a tennis club, a rugby club, and a swimming pool with gym. The Marine Highland hotel also has a swimming pool and sports complex open to the public, and the Town Hall frequently hosts conferences, receptions, concerts and dances. There is a diverse range of niche shopping for the retail enthusiast: Troon offers many shops not found on the average high street and a good number of these are run by the owners themselves. There is also a Morrison’s supermarket and petrol station. Food MacCallum’s fish restaurant, with its associated fish and chip shop, is one of the best in Scotland. At the marina, Scott’s restaurant offers a wide range of Scottish fare. Both are extremely popular with natives as well as visitors. There is an abundance of cafes, tearooms, bars, restaurants and hotels catering for all tastes and budgets, and most of these are within easy walking distance of the harbour. Accommodation Troon offers a diverse range of places to stay, from B&Bs and self-catering to grand hotels, and the St. Meddans Caravan Site has 25 campsites available from March through October, where you can enjoy the beauty of nature in a peaceful setting.
