The best of British?
A new book claiming to be the definitive guide to the top 25 UK and Ireland travel experiences has sparked more debate than the merger of the UK’s biggest travel companies.
Domestic holidays are enjoying something of a boom at the moment. We all love going abroad, but we’re also taking lots of short breaks in the UK and Ireland, partly because the weather is currently so good.
But where are the best places to go and what are the top attractions? Rough Guides has stuck its neck on the line and reckons it has the definitive list.
Of the top five, I’ve done number one, ‘soaking up the Edinburgh Festival’, number three, ‘punting on the Cam’ and number four, ‘supping Guinness in Dublin’.
But is their list, which you can find on the Internet, really a fair reflection of the best of Britain and Ireland? After all, at number 20 is ‘watching a football match at Old Trafford’, which is frankly ludicrous for the majority of us who don’t even like, let alone support, Manchester United.
Where’s your favourite place in the UK and Ireland?
