The US gets its house in order
Service across the pond is improving, I can reliably report.
I’ve just returned from a trip to New York (travel journalism is tough) and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The trip through customs was almost pleasant.
I flew on Continental Airlines and was expecting the worst. I’ve been on United Airlines and American Airlines and the service has not always been satisfactory. It’s extraordinary really, because the United States is the service centre of the world, but perhaps airline staff won’t go the extra mile because they don’t receive tips in the sky.
Anyway, Continental was surprisingly good; the meals were edible and the economy seats fairly roomy. The staff were humourous and attentive. I’m not giving them a plug because I got a freebie – I paid for my ticket and it was worth it.
What do you think of airline service?
