There’s more to life than work
In my job, I often interview very successful businessmen who tell me they are workaholics and haven’t taken a holiday for years. They seem proud of this achievement, but what does it really say about them?
For my money, they’re pretty sad individuals, who are strangers to their families and count their bank manager as their best – and only – friend.
I believe there’s more to life than amassing millions of pounds by working 100 hours a week, which is why, of course, I’m not a rich man.
But if new research is to be believed, an increasing number of people have not got the work/life balance quite right.
With just a few weeks to go before the end of the year, a study from travel insurer More Than has revealed that nine out of 10 working Brits have not taken all their 2006 entitlement. They just can’t get away from their desks.
One in four people still have more than 10 days left of their entitlement and nearly half have more than six days left.
However, over a fifth of people surveyed said they were too busy for a proper break and 29 per cent said they would be unable to use their full allowance for the year.
It’s just not right, is it?
There’s still time to take a break (and you’ll find plenty of them on this site), so ditch the desk and head for the sun, the slopes or a city break.
Remember – no-one ever died wishing they’d spent more time in the office.
Are you working too hard?
