Many thanks as always to everyone who has written in to me. I may not have the space to feature all of them in these postings but I do promise to respond to all the genuine messages and suggestions.

Doug Sammons wasn’t put off going to Egypt by the bomb blast in Cairo. He went out with a group to Cairo, Luxor and Aswan and had a great time. However, despite staying in five-star accommodation and avoiding salads and drinking water, three out of the party of seven were ill. He warns that all tourist sites have unclean lavatories and jokes that people will put up with terrorist threats, but not sub-human WCs!

Doug feels Egypt needs to improve its cleanliness. It’s probably a fair point, but we don’t want everywhere to become a mini-England do we? Part of the beauty of travel is seeing how people live in different countries, even if that means the odd dirty toilet!

Meanwhile, I received a great packing tip from Ivan Webb, who travelled all over the world singing with the Morriston Orpheus Choir. He had to carry an evening suit, blazer and grey flannels, which used to get very creased in his suitcase.

As soon as he got into the hotel Ivan would hang everything in the bathroom and turn on a hot shower. After hanging in the steam for five to 10 minutes, all the unwanted creases fell out. So, try Ivan’s methods next time you have a shirt or suit full of creases.

Thanks also to Jill Leicester, who has returned from a city break in Paris with her husband. Despite long queues to go up the Eiffel Tower and the high price of a drink in the bars, she had a wonderful time and the weather was very mild. Paris is a fabulous city, but you do get through the Euros!

Happy holidays and, remember, we want to hear from you. Send your holiday experiences, comments and recommendations to info@ukferrytickets.co.uk
